Letter To The Internet
Dear Internet,
You gave me a career. You gave billions of people access to information, entertainment, and each other. And you're funded largely by advertising. I'm Ranjan Dasgupta, and I've spent my career trying to make that funding mechanism work better: more transparent, more efficient, more aligned with the value we all get from the open web.
I'm grateful for the platform. I'm also concerned. The attention economy can push us toward more engagement at any cost. Ads can be intrusive, irrelevant, or worse. But ads can also be the reason a small publisher survives, a creator gets paid, and quality content gets made. The difference is in how we build the systems: programmatic done right respects the user and the publisher; done wrong, it's a race to the bottom.
My vision: advertising that funds the internet without burning trust. That means better exchange architecture, smarter yield optimization, and a commitment to supply path optimization that actually simplifies the chain. I've written about attention as a currency and ads for good elsewhere; for this letter, I'll just say: the internet is worth protecting. Let's build ad tech that helps. Get in touch.
